Thurrock Data Centre & Ecology Park

About the project

Data centres are at the heart of today’s digital economy. They securely store, process and transfer the data that underpins essential services, helping businesses, public services and technologies like AI operate smoothly and reliably.
In the UK

Data centres are classified as Critical National Infrastructure

As a result of their importance, data centres are classified in the UK as Critical National Infrastructure, requiring exceptionally high levels of resilience, security and reliability.

The Thurrock Data Centre and Ecology Park is being designed to meet these standards at scale, with infrastructure capable of supporting continuous, long term operation while responding to the constraints of the UK electricity network.

Environment

Ecology Park and Land Restoration

A defining feature of the project is the scale of land set aside for ecological restoration.

The project will deliver:

  • creation of new wetland habitats with enhanced ecological value

  • long‑term biodiversity improvements

  • a lasting environmental legacy alongside critical infrastructure

The Ecology Park will be designed to deliver measurable environmental benefits over the lifetime of the project, ensuring the site contributes positively to both national infrastructure needs and the natural environment.
